Trading the playground of Camps Bay for pristine natural splendour in the Indian Ocean islands, the recent trip by Carlinn Meyer (aka Camps Bay Girl) and her partner, Michael Eloff (aka The Lawry), to the Seychelles seemed nothing less than idyllic.
Aerial shots of hearts drawn in the soft Seychellois sand, refreshing dips in the pool and swaying palm trees set against sparkling turquoise waters dominated our Instagram feed for the week – each click of the app revealing another sublime image of Mike and Carlinn relaxing (read working hard) in paradise.
Big Ambitions and the Seychelles Tourism Board put together this influencer trip which included visits to such iconic hotels as Eden Bleu, Raffles Seychelles and Constance Ephelia.
Mike and Carlinn were treated to business class flights, tours of Mahé, Praslin and La Digue, as well as spa treatments, a Canopy Tour and a visit to Vallee de Mai, a UNESCO World Heritage Site where the legendary Coco-de-Mer, the world’s heaviest nut, grows high on ancient palms in a primeval forest.
While the Seychelles Tourism Board sponsored the trip, it did not pay Mike and Carlinn for their time in the Seychelles. However, both Mike and Carlinn successfully rand micro-campaigns for other non-travel brands, including Watch Republic and GoPro to monetise the trip. A clever business model for influencers who are not being remunerated for their time during a press trip.
